A year ago, many people would not know Henry Golding, but after Crazy Rich Asians, Henry Golding has become well-known in every household. In Crazy Rich Asians, Henry Godling plays as Nick Young, a male protagonist who hails from one of the richest family in Singapore. Eleanor Young (played by Michelle Yeoh) is known as Nick’s domineering mother and wife to Philip in the Crazy Rich Asians. The way Eleanor expresses her maternal love to his son (Nick Young) is insisting that her only son meet and conform to her own standards and demands, which is considered “crazy” in the Crazy Rich Asians. She places pedigree and lineage as her priority and therefore she spares no expense at sabotaging the relationship between Nick and Rachel during their holiday in Singapore, she even hires private eyes to look upon Rachel’s background. She did this because she insists that Nick should marry a girl with the same social standing as him, instead of Rachel who came from a normal background.

My Review & Why you should watch it?

  • 91% Rotten Tomatoes 🍅
  • All Asian Cast – It’s the first film to star a completely Asian American cast
  • It highlights Singapore and Chinese cultures to the world

Crazy Rich Asians is a fun, dazzling rom-com from start to finish. It’s essentially a Cinderella story featuring a love story between two people from vastly different social classes, conniving characters plotting to tear them apart and there’s even a makeover session!

This film was set in Singapore and features iconic landmarks like Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. However, did you ever notice that some of the scenes in this movie were shot in Malaysia? Now, these places have become tourist spots for people around the world. There are at least five places in Malaysia that have been set in some of the movie’s most memorable scenes. These places include Carcosa Seri Negara which featured as the ancestral estate of Eleanor Young in Singapore, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion where the iconic courtyard mahjong scene between Eleanor Young and Rachel Chu, Langkawi Island which is known as Rawa Island in the Crazy Rich Asians, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi where Araminta Lee’s bachelorette party was filmed , and finally the last place, Astor Bar, St. Regis. Kuala Lumpur where the scene where Astrid Teo enters a jewelry boutique. These spots showcased Malaysia’s natural beauty as well as its architectural grandeur. However, I expect all of the scenes will be set in Singapore before I watch the movie. In fact, there are some of the scenes which have been filmed in Malaysia. The only thing that I feel unsatisfied is that the Malaysian Censorship board cut a few scenes of the movie.

Conclusion

Crazy Rich Asians is more than a movie, it has become a movement, where it makes us proud to be Asians. I  wouldn’t mind watching Crazy Rich Asians again, and I am excited that there’s another sequel for this movie.
